Matters of Representation is an online archive of children’s books (Board books to Young Adult novels) by under-represented, Black, Indigenous, People of Color authors and illustrators.
Reading stories that feature and center people outside of children’s usual experiences is a necessary step in the process of helping them become self-aware and socially conscious. It also sets the foundation in becoming changemakers in their community. Finally, reading books featuring underrepresented characters, empowers children from underrepresented communities to see themselves centered in books they read.
It is my hope that on this website, readers will find books that truly reflect the world we live in; books that open minds and hearts to the many wonderful stories existing in the world today!
