About the Author

Laura was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, but has been living in the United States for over 15 years. New York City has been her second home since graduating from college in 2007.  

Laura is the founder of Matters of Representation. She has loved books ever since her daddy taught her to read. Being surrounded by books makes her happy! 

Laura received an MA in Early Childhood Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and taught for 8 years as a preschool teacher. It was her time in the classroom that opened her eyes to the magic of picture books, and the desire to write them. 

She is currently enrolled at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in the Writing for Children and Young Adults program. Laura is represented by Maria Vicente at PS Literary Agency, and has a debut picture book (Black Gold, illustrated by London Ladd) out in Fall 2022, with Harper Collins.
